Another burger I ate recently was The Wee Vegan, from Velvet Burger. Originally from Dunedin, Velvet Burger opened its first Auckland location not so long ago in Fort Street, right next door to Revive.
The Wee Vegan comes in three varieties: mushroom, tofu or falafel. It’s sort of fish&chip-shop in style, except not greasy – fried tofu sandwiched inside a plain white bun, with simple fresh salad ingredients and sloppy sauces.
It’s little, like the name suggests, but good for a small meal. There’s a bigger vegetarian burger, the ‘Animal Rights’, that looks like it could be made vegan with a bit of negotiation.
Velvet Burger’s kūmara chips are some of the best tasting I’ve had in Auckland, though the serving is a little ridiculous-sized for one person. Go with a friend, and enjoy a drink from the beverage menu, handily divided into “beers” and “not beers”.
