Little plates at C.A.C.

C.A.C. Bar & Eatery is named for the historic building it occupies: the Colonial Ammunition Company in Mount Eden. The site of the historic munitions factory was redeveloped about a decade ago to become a townhouse complex, but the bluestone building and a steel-framed shot tower remain.

The bar’s food menu consists of interesting small plates that are easily shared. A few vegetarian and dairy-free options are marked on the menu, and staff are helpful at advising which ones are vegan or can be adjusted.

We visited the other day and shared three vegan plates: hummus with cherry tomatoes, roasted cauliflower & olives, bruschetta with mushroom & wilted spinach, and steamed potatoes with fried green beans, rocket & almonds (& olive oil instead of aioli). And for dessert, there was raspberry sorbet.
